Common Fashion Mistakes that make you look less elegant and sophisticated

Updated: Dec 3, 2021

First of all let me say that I was also quite guilty when I was younger. But time flies, we all learn from our mistakes and we want to find style that suits us and especially find out who we truly are and when we feel really confident and comfortable. If you want your style to be more elegant and sophisticated, then you should avoid these common fashion mistakes.

But remember - as the fashion icon Iris Apfel once said:

“What's my style is not your style.” - Iris Apfel

Buying things for the visible brand logo

When you buy clothes, shoes to accessories for really visible brand logo because you feel like it can give you some higher status in society, something went really wrong. You end up looking like walking billboard, but also really unsophisticated and sometimes even cheap. Don't get me wrong, buying something from a luxury brand isn't a bad thing, but you just shouldn't be too much and wear it only for it's visible logo, so everyone will see that you can afford it. Sometimes the quality of these pieces isn't good as well. Try to buy quality products or products with less visible brand logo. You'll look so much better and elegant!

Showing too much cleavage (attention seeking)

It's normal that we all want to attract and sometimes we even tend to want to be centre of attention, but we should also know when it's just too often and too much. When we are obsessed with having eyes on us the entire time and especially when we need to show more skin in order to get more eyes on us, we can look really cheap and unsophisticated. Nowadays, we can see that many women have a tendency to show too much on photos to get the attention of everybody. But unfortunately they end up looking like they have some confidence problems or they are so desperate for the attention, that they are willing to do anything to be seen and to get men's attention.

It's okay to wear something where we show more skin, we can just do it more sophisticated, ladies!

Always following trends

You should buy what flatters you, what you like, what makes you look stunning. Some things are maybe trendy. but unfortunately most of them will make you look terrible and sometimes they can even make you feel terrible. Don't lose yourself. Be who you really are, don't just copy some fashion trend. Trends don't last and they are not for everyone. Choose quality over quantity. Wear your clothes for as long as they make you feel and look wonderful, wear them in the way that reflects who you truly are, and don't stop wearing them because you turned another year older, changed jobs, etc. Be you, no matter what the magazines and last fashion trends are showing you.

Wearing gym clothes when you are not doing sports

Yes, perhaps they are comfortable, but they are not the most comfortable piece of trousers one could wear. There are many other more comfortable trousers that are actually even more stylish and are meant for whatever occasion it is you are in. These clothes are made for sports, they are not there for everyday life. We just become so lazy, that we don't want to make that effort and put on proper clothes. But dressing properly for any occasion is also a matter of good manners.
